Heat 1
Red Rickardsen Blue Moran white Loram Yellow Wigg
Tony Rickardsen swept into an immediate lead , Kelly Moran was slow away but on the second lap forced Mark Loram wide to move into 2nd with some forceful riding, but felt whilst passing Rickardsen on lap 3. He was eliminated from the re-run, which was won easily by Rickardsen from Simon Wigg and Loram who seemed to be struggling to find the shale.
Heat 2
red Boyce blue Briggs white Simmons yellow Penhall
Heat 2 saw Barry Briggs away first but a mistake on lap 2 let Bruce Penhall in to take an easy victory. Malcolm Simons was unable to make any impression on the leaders, trailing in at the back.
Heat 3
red Ermolenko blue Michanek white Neilsen yellow Mauger
Hans Neilsen and Anders Michanek missed the gate, allowing Ivan Mauger and Sam the man to make the brake. Riding hard Neilsen forced Anders Michanek out wide to take third palce. Mauger was away though and broke the race record. Michanek fought back round the outside to push Neilsen into 4th place, Ermolenko picked up an untroubled 2 points.
Heat 4
red Knudsen blue Fundin white O Pedersen yellow Collins
A win for Ove Fundin who was pushed all the way by Jan O Pedersen. Tommy Knudsen trailed in 3rd just ahead of the trying Peter Collins looking for drive around the boards after a slow start.
Heat 5
red Collins blue Rickardsen white Boyce yellow Neilsen
Heat 5 saw Hans Nielsen and Peter Collins trying to break their duck. Riding round the boards from gate 4 Neilsen caught Collins and Craig Boyce hugging the inside chasing the impressive Rickardsen who had opened up a lead going into lap 3. Then came Nielsen powering round both Collins and Boyce before going round Rickardsen to take an impressive 3 points. Boyce and Collins both continued to struggle with only a 3rd place each to show for their efforts so far. Tony Rickardsen is looking good for a semi final apprearance with another 2 points in the bag.
Heat 6
red Fundin blue Ermolenko white Moran yellow Simmons
Heat 6 was another fiery affair with Moran again riding hard in the early stages almost pushing Ove Fundin into the boards. Malcolm Simmons finding the resultant gap to take the early lead from Sam Ermolenko. Simmons was unable to hold off the pressing Ermolenko who rode excellently to beat Simmons into 3rd place. Moran picked up 1 point but earned criticism from Fundin for his aggressive riding. Moran’s single point so far putting him in jeopardy of not making the semi finals.
Heat 7
red Michanek blue Knudsen white Briggs yellow Loram
Mark Loram went into the heat looking to build on his single point as were Anders Michanek and Knudsen. Barry Briggs was favourite to take the heat after his win in his opening race and didn’t disappoint with a masterful display of riding, leading from start to finish. Mark Loram failed to score and Tommy Knudsen probably needed more than 1 point. Anders Michanek might be satisfied with his 2 points, but will be troubled by the ease of Briggs’ victory.
Heat 8
red Wigg blue Penhall white Mauger yellow O Pedersen
A dramatic start to heat 8 saw all four riders gate well, but Jan O Pedersen ran Simon WIGG into the fence on the first bend causing both riders to fall and was excluded from the re-run. Bruce Penhall led from the restart. Ivan Mauger was unable to overcome an indifferent start, finishing 2nd.
After 2 rides each, Bruce Penhall led the way with 2 wins. Barry Briggs and Ivan Mauger were next with 5 points each. Mark Loram, Tommy Knudsen, Craig Boyce and Peter Collins were all in need of a win to get back in contention for a semi final appearance. Best of the Brits was Simon Wigg with 3 points from his first two rides. With the top 8 going into the semi finals there was still plenty of Speedway left.
Heat 9
red Simmons blue O Pedersen white Rickardson yellow Michanek
An exciting heat 9 saw all riders get away smartly. Malcolm Simmons taking th lead on lap 2 but he ran wide om lap 3 to allow first Rickardson and then Jan O Pedersen past on lap 4. Pedersen just taking Rickardson on the line.
Heat 10
red Mauger blue Boyce white Knudsen yellow Moran
A thrilling battle between Ivan Mauger and Kelly Moran saw Moran take bit by half a wheel. Craig Boyce finished third after the elimantion of Tommy Knudsen after a fall on lap 1. He looks out of it but Kelly Moran now has a chance of making the semi’s. Ivan Mauger looks almost assured of a spot with his third excellent ride.
Heat 11
red Penhall blue Nielsen white Loram yellow Fundin
An excellent ride by Mark Loram, pushed al the way by Ove Fundin and Hans Nielsen, who got in each others way to give Loram the space he needed. Bruce Penhall brought up the rear, but all four riders have heir destiny in their own hands.
Heat 12
red Collins blue Wigg white Ermolenko yellow Briggs
Peter Collins failed to add to his tally but Simon Wigg took two points after losing out on the line to Sam Ermolenko coming around the outside to pass Briggs and Wigg. Ermolenko is assured of a place in the semi final with 8 points on the board. Briggs looks on course fro a place. Wigg has more to do but should be happy with his 5 points so far. Peter Collins looks out of it after failing to trouble the scorers again.
Heat 13
red Briggs blue Mauger white Fundin yellow Rickardsen
Heat 13 was a
Heat 14
red Moran blue Collins white Penhall yellow Michanek
A great ride by Anders Michanek saw him take toe honours and give himself some hope of making the semi. Kelly Moran’s 3rd place doesn’t look enough for him. Peter Collins rode a nice steady race for 2nd but is already out of contention for a semi final place.
Heat 15
red O Pedersen blue Loram white Ermolenko yellow Boyce
An eventful heat 15 saw Jan O Pedersen virtually through with a neat win over the only other finisher Mark Loram. Sam Ermolenko retired with engine problems and the luckless Craig Boyce ran wide on lap 2 and fell without injury.
Heat 16
red Nielsen blue Simmons white Wigg yellow Knudsen
Hans Nielsen looking to recover after a poor 3rd in his previous ride only managed 2nd place to a spritied ride from Simon Wigg. He passed Nielsen round the outside on lap 2. Tommy Knudsen came in 3rd but is out of contention for a semi final place. Despite coming in 4th Malcolm Simmons rode really well crossing the line only half a wheel behind Knudsen.
